Thank you for visiting my blog. I'm not a physician a nurse or a health care provider. I'm a health journalist and my main purpose with this blog is to share information and educate the latino community about how to live a healthy life. I'm working very hard on getting better on my beat to help others. This is a very complex field that requires specialized knowledge and training. As a Latino journalist is critical for me to understand all aspects of health care in America, since my audience, the Hispanic community (or minority), is the fastest growing segment of the USA population. For certain health conditions, Hispanics bear a disproportionate burden of disease, injury, death, and disability when compared with non-Hispanic whites and Afro-Americans. Beside that, Hispanics face racial/ethnic health disparities; this is the minority with the largest group of people without health insurance and that is the reason why many Latinos don’t have a primary care physician and depend only of the Emergency Room when they need medical assistance. Eliminating these disparities will require culturally appropriate public health initiatives, community support, equitable access to quality health care, and a better job from the media.
